The million euro refurbishment of a well-known midlands building has gotten underway.
The Market House in Portarlington has stood in the centre of the town for nearly 300 years, and was previously a Courthouse, a Town Hall and a Garage.
The refurbishment of the building is expected to cost just over €1.2 million, and the project received funding of just under €1.1 million in 2021 as part of the "Our Rural Future" scheme.
The development will see the Market House re-imagined as the central focus of the town with a range of public and community uses including a meeting space and an event and exhibition area.
