Some local and regional routes in particular have been earmarked for work.
Over €38 million is being allocated to maintain and improve local and regional roads in the midlands.
In Laois, €400,000 is going towards safety improvement works on the former N7 between Portlaoise and Borris in Ossory.
The Edenderry Inner Relief Road is among the routes earmarked for improvement in Offaly.
While the safety works being carried out in Westmeath include at Lynn Roundabout, Horseleap to Ballinea and at Taughmon National School.
