Investment into the country's railway is just as important as a new cycle network, according to a midlands environmentalist.
The National Cycle Network was launched yesterday, which unveiled plans to link 200 settlements around the country, including Athlone and Mullingar, Tullamore and Edenderry, and Portlaoise and Portarlington.
The project is expected to cost around €1.5 billion, with an estimated delivery date of 2040.
