Electricity capacity in a Laois town is being doubled to help support thousands of new homes and businesses.

ESB Networks is upgrading two transformers at its Pallas station in Portlaoise, providing enough additional capacity for around 2,500 homes.

The project will also support increased demand from electric vehicles and heat pumps.

It's part of wider investment aimed at strengthening the electricity network across Laois and the Midlands.
