The Minister of State for European Affairs is visiting Laois and Offaly today.
The Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence, says EU related events could take place in the Midlands this year.
Thomas Byrne TD is visiting Laois and Offaly today as part of an outreach programme to raise awareness of Ireland’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU, which begins in July.
He believes 25% of events will take place outside of Dublin.
The Fianna Fáil rep says during Ireland's presidency in 2013 almost all meetings were carried out in Dublin due to costs:
The Minister is also urging Midlands graduates to apply for jobs within EU institutions.
The EU AD5 competition is open to Irish candidates for the first time since 2019, with applications being accepted until March 10th.
Successful applicants will secure permanent roles with the European Commission, working across key policy areas on behalf of 450 million EU citizens.
Minister Byrne says there's not enough Irish entering institutions in Europe:
