Family Carers Ireland says proposed increases to the carers allowance will barely keep pace with the cost of living in Ireland.

Longford-Westmeath TD Kevin 'Boxer' Moran is among Independent Ministers pressuring the Department of Social Protection to set out an estimate of getting rid of the test.

Changes take effect this month which sees the allowance rise to €625 for single people and €1,250 for couples,
