Laois is one of nine counties without such a facility.
There's fears of further delays to the development of a refuge centre for victims of domestic violence in Laois.
The local authority has confirmed a 0.7 acre site has been secured for the facility, but a further 0.3 acres of land are needed before progressing to the next stage.
That plot of land has been requested by the Departments of Housing and Justice.
Laois is one of nine counties in the country without a refuge centre, while Offaly is also included in that figure.
