Turkey and Syria will be more included in the Irish Red Cross's International efforts - that's the view of new chair, former Foreign Affairs minister Charlie Flanagan.
The former Justice Minister and Fine Gael rep for Laois-Offaly was elected following a vote by the board's general assembly.
It comes as their new five year strategy comes into effect this year until 2030.
It focuses on increasing awareness of their humanitarian services and expanding their reach in Ireland.
