Members of the Joint Policing Committee argued the scheme should be included in other towns.
Gardaí have been criticised for rolling out a new scheme which would see more members on the beat, in just one midlands town.
The Sectoral Policing Scheme was launched in Portlaoise last month, which saw the town divided into eight sections, and a Community Garda appointed to each area.
Members of the Joint Policing Committee claimed the initiative should be rolled out in other towns in the county, to avoid a bias towards Portlaoise.
In response, Chief Superintendent Anthony Lonergan says the scheme is just a pilot, and Gardai will consider rolling it out in other areas in Laois.
