They say officers will be out in force this bank holiday weekend.

Gardaí are reminding people in the midlands they'll be out in force over the bank holiday weekend.

Despite the covid-19 restrictions, eight more people have lost their lives on our roads, compared to this time last year.

Superintendent in Portlaoise, Anthony Pettit, says they'll be carrying out their usual June Bank Holiday operation.

He understands people want to enjoy the weekend, but is reminding them restrictions are in place for our own safety:
