€16m is being divided between 890 schools across Ireland.
The payment of grants to the midlands' most disadvantaged schools is being fast-tracked.
The €16 million is going to the 890 DEIS schools in Ireland for the 2020/2021 school year.
But the funding is being paid ahead of schedule to help support students who are most at risk of educational disadvantage during the Covid-19 closures.
Eight schools in the midlands are receiving the grant - including Castlepollard Mixed National School, Daingean National School, and Mountmellick Community School.
