Green Party Calls For Tougher Storm Laws As Éowyn Anniversary Approaches

The storm left over 800,000 people without power.

One year on from Storm Éowyn, communities say they're still seeing the impact of the damage. 

Tomorrow is officially one year since the weather event, which left more than 800,000 properties without power and 100,000 without water. 

The Green Party is calling on the Government to better prepare for future storms, by introducing laws to ensure forestry owners cut back trees from power lines. 

Caroline Reilly from Brownstown Community Centre in Westmeath, says the loss of power brought local people there together in a temporary hub: 


The nearby Mullaghmeen Forest was badly damaged during the storm, with locals fearing it could take decades to be fully restored.
