The incident was reported at Kilminchy Lake.
Investigations are underway after an oil spill at a lake in Laois.
The incident, which has impacted local wildlife on Kilminchy Lake, was reported to Laois County Council last Thursday.
Both the local authority and members of Portlaoise Fire Station attended the site the next day.
A drone was initially used to assess the extent of the spill.
Oil booms and oil absorbing pads were then deployed to help mitigate the environmental damage.
Kildare Wildlife Rescue is describing the situation as critical for local wildlife, adding that the mitigation measures taken have not been very effective.
