Ireland’s First Kidney Pancreas Transplant Recipient Dies Aged 68

Westmeath's Mairead Ward received the procedure in 1991.

A Westmeath woman who is Ireland’s first kidney pancreas transplant recipient, is being remembered for transforming transplant medicine.

Collinstown's Mairead Ward, died suddenly aged 68 this week. 

The Irish Sun is reporting that she made medical history with the groundbreaking 1991 procedure performed by Dr David Hickey at Beaumont Hospital.
