Irish Peacekeepers Need Meaningful Mission After Lebanon

Retired Westmeath Defence Forces sergeant Noel O'Callaghan feels peacekeepers need to keep building after Lebanon.

Irish peacekeepers need to undertake another mission once they're pulled out of Lebanon.

That's the view of a retired Westmeath Defence Forces sergeant, after the UN Security Council yesterday voted to end the 47 year peacekeeping mission in 2027.

By the end of next year, troops will be gradually withdrawn from the country.
