Irish Rail says while crowded trains may be uncomfortable, they are not a safety hazard.
The rail service has been responding to reports of overcrowding on the Mullingar to Dublin service at 1 o'clock on Friday.
Spokesperson Jane Cregan says Mullingar's proximity to Dublin means it's considered a commuter route and says it's not unusual for people to stand for such a journey.
She's reminding people that booking your ticket online will guarantee you a seat, and customer service staff are on-board to help if you have difficulty accessing your seat.
If you book a seat and are not able to access it, you are entitled to a refund.
