103 projects across the country are set to benefit from €13.6 million in funding to restore free flowing rivers.
Inland Fisheries Ireland’s Barrier Mitigation Programme is aiming to improve river connectivity by targeting major fish passage barriers and structures that disrupt natural river form, flow, and function.
Barmillis Weir and Owenass Bridge Apron in Laois alongside Esker one and two, Kinnitty and Birr Camcor in Offaly are the projects approved for funding in the midlands.
The 103 approved projects meet set ecological and implementation criteria and will advance through project phases over the next 1-5 years.
