Aquatic Harvesting Ireland Ltd in Abbeyleix are leading the plans.

A Laois company is boosting the fish populations in Irish Rivers with a new creation.

Stradbally based Aquatic Harvesting Ireland Ltd, have used Laois Partnership Company funding to develop a hydraulic platform to loosens gravel on riverbeds and allow salmon and trout to bury their eggs deeper.

The innovation protects eggs from predators and flooding, significantly improving juvenile fish survival rates.

The business was founded in 2011 by Portlaoise native David Graham, who believes the technology can achieve in days what once took months of manual labour.
