Laois Council Set To Ask Government For A Bailout

Next year's budget will be down by a third.

Laois County Council will ask central government for a bailout to cover next years budget.

It will be down a third of the money it needs to run public services - €78.4 million - according to independent councillor James Kelly.

Commercial rates - normally a large income stream - were waived for businesses struggling throughout Covid.

Councillor Kelly says the draft budget before the council next week will be a "difficult" one.
