Fine Gael's John Moran passed earlier this month.
The former Cathaoirleach of Laois is being remembered by his former colleagues for bringing the ploughing championships to the county.
Fine Gael's John Moran passed earlier this month.
At today's monthly meeting of Laois County Council, he was given credit for bringing the contest to Ballacolla in 2001.
He was first elected in 1991 and won every election he contested until he stepped down in 2019.
His colleagues in the chamber paid tribute to him and offered their sympathies to his daughter Aisling who is a sitting council.
He was described as a trojan worker, who is a huge loss to the community and the county and leaves a huge legacy behind him.
