Laois Electricity Network Doubled In Capacity Following ESB Upgrade

The project aims to strengthen the grid and supports renewable energy growth.

Homes, Businesses and Farms in Portlaoise have been upgraded to double capacity from critical infrastructure upgrade works.

ESB Networks uprated two transformers from 31.5 MVA to 63 MVA, in 24 weeks.

This upgrade strengthens network reliability and supports rising electricity demand and renewable energy integration.

ESB Networks say the project is a key step in future-proofing Ireland’s electricity infrastructure as the country transitions to a low-carbon energy system.
