Laois IFA Chair Warns Farmers After Wexford Bluetongue Case

The illness can severely affect infected animals.

The Laois Chairman of the IFA livestock committee is advising farmers to be vigilant following a confirmed Bluetongue case in Wexford. 

Declan Hanrahan is a suckler and beef farmer from Borris-in-Ossory and says while investigations continue, restrictions apply only to the affected farm, allowing domestic trade to continue. 

The disease can cause severe illness in livestock, and testing is now taking place on farms in the county throughout today and tomorrow.

He says international certification issues must be resolved to protect live exports:
