A Laois town has become the first in Ireland where all mainstream primary and secondary schools have joined the Green-Schools Travel theme.
The Portlaoise School Travel Cluster Project, started by Laois County Council and led by Green-Schools, aims to reduce school-run traffic and improve air quality.
Students, parents, and teachers are encouraged to walk, cycle, scooter, or carpool instead of relying on cars.
The project includes travel audits, student surveys, and active travel events like Walk on Wednesdays.
The initiative has environmental benefits and promotes better physical and mental health for the whole school community.
