Sitting councillor for the Green Party Hazel Smyth, has lost her seat on Westmeath County Council.
The Mullingar rep was elected to the Local Authority 5 years ago, and had recently taken maternity leave, with fellow Green Party candidate Carol Okeke standing in for her - she too was eliminated earlier today.

One newly elected councillor is already turning his mind towards the work to be done in Westmeath.
Athlone saw two Fianna Fáil candidates in Aengus O' Rourke and Frankie Keena reclaim their seats in this year's local elections.
That was following a huge victory for Independent Kevin "Boxer" Moran receiving over 3,700 votes, leading to a major surplus being available.

Fianna Fáil have gained two more seats in Westmeath, as Aengus O' Rourke and Frankie Keena have just been re-elected to the council for Athlone.
Keena received 1,780 votes, while O' Rourke came in at 1,686.

Joining Tom Farrell and Vinny McCormack, Moate's four seats have now been filled.

The Independent rep was re-elected after exceeding the quota by over 300.

On the first count for Kinnegad Ian McGauley was disqualified with less than 100 votes.
No other candidates met the quota in Kinnegad for election on the first round.

The former TD and former Minister of State had previously served on the council for 17 years.
The Independent rep took time to thank the people of his constituency in Athlone for their votes.

On the first count for Moate, Tom Farrell of Fine Gael cleared a quota of 1,825 with 360 votes to spare.
