Man Charged For Alleged Online Threats In Laois

A Primary School kept children in doors as a safety precaution.

A man has been charged for allegedly making threats online in Laois yesterday morning.

He was arrested by Gardaí in Abbeyleix yesterday.

It follows Scoil Mhuire in the town texting an alert to parents that they were keeping their children indoors as a safety precaution.

The text read:

"Dear parent/guardian, we are aware of rumours circulating in Abbeyleix this morning.

Please be reassured that we are doing everything in our power to keep the children and staff safe.

Everyone will remain indoors today or until we hear otherwise. Thank you for your co-operation with this matter."

He is due to appear before Portlaoise District Court this morning.

Fianna Fail Councillor in the Abbeyleix area, John Joe Fennelly says Gardaí in the town acted swiftly:

Independent Laois Councillor Caroline Dwane-Stanley says she wants anyone who comes to the country and threatens communities like Abbeyleix deported:
