The woman was found at an apartment shortly before 5pm yesterday.
A man remains in custody in relation to the suspected fatal assault of a woman in Laois.
The woman, in her 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene after initially being discovered with serious injuries at around 4:45pm yesterday afternoon in an apartment in Mountmellick.
The man, also in his 30s was arrested yesterday, and is currently being detained at Portlaoise Garda Station.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone with any information in relation to this incident.
