President Michael D. Higgins spoke at the event.
The official opening of a midlands Arts Theatre marks the arrival of an amenity that can tie communities together.
That's what President Michael D. Higgins is saying in Tullamore this afternoon at the Esker Arts Theatre.
The facility, which provides a 220 seater auditorium, performing arts rooms and two gallery spaces has long been campaigned for and is now up and running nearly two months.
To celebrate the official opening, the theatre's artistic director Sean Walsh delivered a programme of spoken word and music to entertain Uachtarán na hÉireann.
President Higgins was also presented with a commemorative plaque by Rhode's Michelle O'Donnell of Glasshammer Studios.
