Nationally, €81 million has been allocated to community groups from the Government's 'Inflation Fund.'

The midlands will benefit from a three million euro investment to ease cost-of-living pressures.

Community groups around the country have been allocated €81 million from the Government's 'Inflation Fund,' with €62 million of that going to disability service providers.

Offaly will receive the largest investment in the region, at just under €1.3 million.

That's followed by a €1.1 million allocation to Westmeath, and just under €600,000 in Laois.

The Inflation Fund is a once-off payment, which aims to off-set some of the pressures incurred by rising costs in 2022.

Laois Offaly TD Barry Cowen says:

"I am delighted to welcome this funding for Offaly, which will go a long way towards recognising the increased costs incurred by community-based and voluntary health and social care providers in our region. These organisations play a vital role in providing frontline services to some of the most vulnerable members of our society, and it is important that they are supported during these challenging times.

The impact of high inflation on costs related to energy prices has been a major challenge for community-based and voluntary health and social care providers across the region. This additional funding will help to ease some of the financial pressures faced by these organisations and enable them to continue delivering essential services to those who need them most."
