The ISPCA Laois pound will look to upgrade the kennels and the vet room.
Almost €60,000 in capital funding has been granted to significantly upgrade a midlands dog pound.
The number of kennels at the ISPCA Laois pound will increase from eight to 20 and they will develop its indoor sleeping area and a vet room.
The county collected 120 stray dogs last year.
ISPCA CEO Cyril Sullivan says the funding will go a long way as they have seen an unprecedented number of animals:
