Detective Garda Eamonn Cunnane's story was told at today's GRA conference.
A Midlands Gardai suspended over a unclaimed bike loan to a neighbour during Covid has been given a standing ovation at the GRA conference.
Detective Garda Eamonn Cunnane was handed a three year suspension and underwent a criminal investigation by the Gardaí's National Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
He has recently settled a personal injury claim in the High Court against the Justice Minister and the Garda Commissioner for €250,000 in damages and has been reinstated since the incident.
Members of the Garda Representative Association applauded him as his story was told, and are calling on the Commissioner to implement a fully independent appeals process for suspended members.
