Midlands House Prices Rise Over 6% In Past Year

The new MyHome.ie report shows the prices are up by 6.5% on average across the Midlands.

Midlands house prices are up an average of 6.5% in the last 12 months according to a new report.

The cost of a home is up 8.4% in Westmeath, 7.1% in Laois, and 4.2% in Offaly over the course of the last 12 months, according to the latest MyHome.ie report.

Nationally, house prices are up by 7%.

Author of the report and Chief Economist at Bank of Ireland, Conall MacCoille believes the mortgage market is playing a big part:

The cost of a four-bedroom semi detached house in Laois is increasing faster than anywhere else in the country.

The median price of such a house in Laois, which is now €264,000, increased by 5.8% over the course of the last three months, and 13.8% in the last 12 months.

A four bed semi-D costs €280,000 in Offaly, up 12% in a year, but down 0.8% in the last quarter.

While in Westmeath it's just under €300,000 - up 7% when compared to the same time last year - a 1.6% increase in three months.

Mr MacCoille says the market is starting to settle:
