The Midlands Senator is criticizing the EPA ahead of the current allowance expiring in December.

A Midlands Senator is questioning the Environmental Protection Agency's role in protecting Ireland's nitrates derogation.

The State's current allowance expires at the end of the year.

The Government is negotiating with the European Commission for a possible vote at EU level on the issue early next month.

Fianna Fail's Joe Flaherty has also been criticising a recent illegal peat extraction report from the EPA as well.

He says the body's track record concerns him when it comes to the derogation:
