Ericsson in Athlone is set to let go of some of their employees.
Over 30 jobs are set to be lost at a Westmeath based software company.
OPW Minister and Longford-Westmeath Kevin 'Boxer' Moran says Ericsson in Athlone is confirming redundancies due to internal organisational changes.
It follows plans to move its current workforce from its Cornamaddy base to the IDA Park in Garrycastle, with plans still in a detailed architecture design stage.
A voluntary redundancy package has opened for affected employees and runs until Friday February 6th.
Statement from OPW Minister and Longford-Westmeath TD Kevin 'Boxer' Moran on Ericsson:
“While any proposed redundancies are deeply regrettable and understandably
difficult for those impacted and their families, Ericsson has made clear that Athlone remains
central to its future plans, with a record €200 million investment underway in research and
development at the company’s campus.
My focus is on ensuring that Athlone continues to grow as a hub for high-value employment,
skills development and innovation. The scale of Ericsson’s long-term commitment here
sends a very strong and positive signal for the town, the Midlands and Ireland as a whole.”
