Over 32,000 patients are waiting for treatment at hospitals serving the midlands counties.
That's according to figures released by the National Treatment Purchase Fund.
The Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore has the highest number in the region with 14,783 outpatients, while Mullingar has 9,067 people waiting, with 5,560 on the list at Portlaoise, meanwhile in Portiuncula Hospital the number is 3,415.
Almost 100,000 patients nationwide were also waiting for an appointment for their inpatient or day-case treatment last month.
