Offaly County Council is seeking further information before making a decision on the development.
The future of plans to add 50 beds to a proposed midlands hospital have been put on hold.
John Flanagan Developments received planning permission to build a 99-bed facility on the Wellwood Healthcare Campus in Tullamore last year.
It had been due to start construction last summer, but approached Offaly County Council with a proposal to expand the plans, and add an extra 50 beds to the hospital, bringing the total to just under 150.
The local authority had been due to make a decision on the new plans last month, but has requested additional information from the developer.
The request comes after Transport Infrastructure Ireland stated the application lacks sufficient data to demonstrate the proposed development will not have a detrimental impact on the safety of the national road .
