It's hoped 60 permanent jobs can be created with the project.
Plans have been submitted for a new gas-fueled power plant in the midlands.
Bord Na Móna has applied to An Bord Pleanála for 10-year permission to develop the 710MW facility on lands in Derrygreenagh in Offaly, near Rhode.
The proposed project would see the demolition of the buildings at the Derrygreenagh Bord na Mána works site.
This would make way for the construction of a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine and Open Cycle Gas Turbine Thermal Power Plant, along with electricity grid connection and the associated infrastructure.
The development is expected to create up to 750 construction jobs, while an additional 60 long-term personnel will be needed for the operation, maintenance and management of the plant.
Bord Na Móna Powergen Limited says the proposed facility is needed, with the unprecedented pressure currently being experienced on the security of electricity supply.
An Bord Pleanála is due to make a decision on the project in August.
