The next available date for an NCT in Tullamore is November 27th, 1st December in Mullingar and Portlaoise, with motorists in Athlone waiting until at least 20th December.
According to the Irish Examiner, gardaí say they're mindful of the delays and are asking drivers to provide proof of a scheduled test if their disc is out of date.
It's leading to motorists booking NCTs further away from their locality in order to secure a test, according to a motoring expert.
