Teaching Council Inquiry On Enoch Burke Adjourned Until Friday

Mr Burke wants the chairperson to stand aside from the hearing.

The Teaching Council inquiry into Enoch Burke has been adjourned until Friday, when a panel will rule on an application seeking the recusal of its chairperson.

Mr Burke claims the chairperson, Andy Pike, is not independent and should stand aside from the fitness-to-teach hearing.

Mr Burke today made a preliminary application seeking the removal of the chairperson of the Teaching Council inquiry panel.

The former teacher claimed Andy Pike was biased and lacked independence because of a number of social media reposts, including one which he said mocked him.

However, counsel for the Teaching Council, Eoghan O’Sullivan, said Mr Burke was again attempting to ‘blur the lines’ as to what todays inquiry was about.

He said the inquiry concerns Mr Burke’s repeated attendance at Wilson’s Hospital School despite court orders barring him from the premises.

The fitness-to-teach hearing was adjourned until midday on Friday, when the panel will deliver its decision on the application.
