Those living nearby say they've been overwhelmed by rodents.
Laois residents are facing an 'absolute infestation' of rats due to dumping.
The pests have been swarming a transit van full of rubbish, which was left next to Oriel House and Wilton House in Portarlington.
Neighbouring residents have caught as many as seven or eight rats in the past ten days, which have been lurking around their gardens as a result of the litter.
They also say they're spending a substantial amount of money on traps and poison.
This resident says there's nobody willing to help:
Laois County Council says it's issued correspondence to the owners of the site, asking them to remove the litter and secure the site to prevent future dumping.
The local authority also says it's investigating the matter.
