He's being described as 'a polite, respectful young man'.
The teenager who died after getting into difficulty while swimming in Lough Ree in County Westmeath on Saturday has been named as 15-year-old Martin Greene from Brawny Close, Athlone.
Counselling and support services are being made available for Martin's friends and teachers at Athlone Community College this morning between 10am and 12 noon.
Tributes have been pouring in for the young man, described by his football club, St Francis FC, as 'a quiet leader, one of its top scorers and a polite, respectful young man'.
Local councillor Frankie Keena has also offered his condolences to Martin's mother, family and friends:
