Gardaí are warning people in parts of Offaly to beware of a two men impersonating officers.
Reports of the men calling to houses in the Edenderry area have been made to gardaí.
The men are asking the occupants if they have been victims of crime recently and could they look around inside their home.
An investigation is underway after a sum of cash was stolen by the impersonators.
Gardaí are reminding residents that while detectives don't wear a uniform, they will always carry a badge.
You should always ask to see the badge, ask them which garda station they're from, and lock your door while you call the garda station to confirm their identity.
Laois-Offaly Crime Prevention Officer, Sergeant Graham Kavanagh also advises asking all unknown callers for ID and ringing your local garda station if you have any suspicions:
