The strike has been downgraded until a formal hearing next week.
A widespread Retained Firefighters strike came close to happening this morning due to a lack of action from the government, according the group's SIPTU representative for Westmeath.
It comes after negotiations attended by SIPTU and the local government management agency lasted seven hours yesterday at the Labour Court.
The strike of over 2000 firefighters has been downgraded to "non-cooperation" until a formal hearing next week.
