Westmeath Bridge Could Be Named To Honour Former Minister

A public consultation will be carried out.

Former Fianna Fail Minister Mary O Rourke could soon have a bridge named after her.

Westmeath County Council is opening a public consultant to ask the public if they would like to name the  greenway bridge which links the east and west side of the town in her memory. 

The former Longford Westmeath TD, who served in the  Dáil for 25 years, passed away at the age 87 last year. 

Independent Councillor Paul Hogan is proposing the idea and says the naming could be completed by October to coincide with  the anniversary of her passing:
