Westmeath councillor Jamie Moran is resigning.
The 23 year old son of former TD Kevin 'Boxer' Moran was elected to the local authority in 2019.
In a statement on Facebook, the independent councillor say it's with a heavy heart that he's taken the decision to resign with immediate effect, which he says is due to new work opportunities.
He added that it was a great honour and privilege to serve the people of Athlone and Moate.
The full post states;
"It’s with a heavy heart I want to let you know that I have resigned from Westmeath Co Council with immediate effect.
It was a great honour and privilege to serve the people of Athlone and Moate since I was elected.
My decision for stepping down is due to new work opportunities , it is one that I have not taken lightly and I have given it much thought and reflection.
I would like to thank all my colleagues and staff members in the council and the outdoor staff.
A big thanks to all my friends, supporters and family.
Jamie"
