A Westmeath man will officially become the Archbishop of Dublin today.

Having been appointed Archbishop of Dublin by Pope Francis last December, Dermot Farrell will officially take up the role today.

He was born in Castletown-Geoghegan in 1954 and ordained into the priesthood 26 years later.

Since then he's served as curate in Mullingar and Tullamore and parish priest of Dunboyne, aswell as President of St. Patrick's College, Maynooth.

He's been serving as Bishop of Ossory since 2018.

The archbishop-elect will be officially installed at a service in the Pro Cathedral in Dublin this morning, which will be streamed online from 10.30.
