10 Appeals Lodged Against €1 Billion Westmeath Data Centre Plans

Westmeath County Council signed off on Red Admiral Ltd’s application last month.

There are now 10 separate appeals lodged against plans for a billion euro data centre in Westmeath.

Westmeath County Council gave the green light for the application from Offaly company Red Admiral Ltd last month, despite a large number of submissions being lodged during the initial planning process.

The plans provide for six data centre units and a hybrid energy system combining solar power, fuel cells, and battery storage.

One appeal from a Rochfortbridge resident says he and his family live on a farm 380 metres away from the proposed site.

William Carey says the Carey farm has been a part of the Oldtown area for around 150 years.

He's pointing to a lack of public consultation for the project along with concerns over its impact on their water supply, its impact on road safety in the community, and the devaluation of property in the area as a consequence.
