The number of people on the Live Register in the Midlands is up 2.7% in the last 12 months.
New figures show as of June this year, 12,471 people in the region are receiving Jobseekers Benefit, Jobseekers Allowance or other social welfare benefits.
The East and Midland region saw the biggest increase in those on the register, up 5% in the last year to just over 84,000.
Nationally, there are just under 177,000 people claiming social welfare supports, up 2.5% since June last year.
