21% Decrease In Covid Patients In Hospital In The Past Week

27 people are being treated for covid-19 in midlands hospitals today.

There has been a 21 per cent decrease in the number of Covid-19 patients in public hospitals over the past week.

The figure fell to 371 last night - over 100 fewer than seven days earlier.

The lowest number of new cases since December 14th was also recorded yesterday, at 311.

93 Covid patients are in intensive care - down from the peak of 221 in late January.

27 people are being treated for covid-19 in midlands hospitals today - up four on yesterday.

Eight patients are in a critical condition.

There's no ICU capacity in the region for the second consecutive day, and no available general beds in Mullingar Regional Hospital.

10 new covid cases were recorded in Offaly last night, nine in Westmeath, and less than five in Laois.

But Dr Alan Gaffney, the vice-president of the Intensive Care Society, says ICUs will be busy for some time yet:

The number of patients going to GPs with symptoms of Covid-19 has dropped to its lowest level since last August.
