Hana Meshkat, died at Temple Street Hospital nine days after the crash.

A doctor has pleaded guilty to careless driving causing his six-year-old daughter's death in the midlands.

46 year old Babak Meshkat of An Cimín Mór, Cappagh Road, Galway, was charged following a Garda investigation into a crash on the M6, at Rochfortbridge, in Westmeath on February 8th, 2024.

His daughter, Hana Meshkat, passed away at Children's Health Ireland hospital at Temple Street in Dublin, nine days after the incident.

Last year, the accused was charged and sent forward for trial to the Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court.

Upon the resumption of the case today, the original charge of dangerous driving causing death was amended to a lesser charge of careless driving causing death.

Doctor Meshkat replied "guilty" when the reworded charge was put to him.

Earlier in the trial his defence said it wanted to use an independent expert to analyse crash data.

His barrister had asked for additional time to examine technical documents and instruct a forensic engineer.

The State had already provided a 120-page report from the Garda inspection to Mr Meshkat's legal team.

He has now been remanded on continuing bail to appear again on July 22nd when the court will hear the facts of the case, a victim impact statement, and sentencing.
