The HSE confirmed earlier this week the facility was being considered as an accommodation site for Ukrainian refugees.
A former midlands psychiatric hospital has been deemed unsuitable for accommodating asylum seekers.
The use of the St. Brigid's building at St. Loman's Hospital in Mullingar is said to be too expensive, following an assessment.
While the facility will remain under consideration, it's believed the cost is in relation to the amount of money it would take to bring the disused building up to appropriate standards.
Earlier this week, the HSE confirmed to Midlands 103 the former psychiatric hospital was being considered as an accommodation site for Ukrainian refugees as, due to its age and condition, it is unsuitable for the provision of modern healthcare services.
